Pot #3 -- Blogger's Pajama Passion

We had the neighbors over for an impromptu dinner off the grill the other night. We were all sitting on the deck ruminating about our steaks … poor choice of words. We weren’t really ruminating in either sense, but as we were sitting back, satisfied with the delicious meal we’d just finished, my neighbor said, “I brought crème puffs for dessert.”

“Pajama Passion!” I cried!

Seeing the looks on their faces I realized an explanation was in order. So, I filled them in on the generous booty I’d received from Blogger’s Fuel and explained that Bloggers Pajama Passion would probably be the perfect compliment to the homemade crème puffs.

This turned into a discussion of how M (the husband) has always been disappointed by coffee. He loves the smell of it and will occasional give it another go, but he says the taste of it is always a disappointment because it never, ever tastes like it smells. K (the wife) and I both agreed that he should try it with cream to see if that improved his attitude. He was skeptical.

I went inside to put on a pot of Pajama Passion.

First of all, the “perfume” of this blend is intoxicating! I could hardly wait for the first cup, but like my neighbor, I was a bit skeptical as well. I have always loved the smell of flavored coffees, but so often the scent is just a tease, and the flavor doesn’t follow through. I was hopeful, though.

K and I dished up the crème puffs while the coffee brewed, and after delivering said crème puffs to our spouses – how Leave-It-To-Beaver of us – we went back in and poured the coffee. Again, the scent was delicious.

I was a bit hesitant to take that first sip. I so very much wanted it to live up to its smell, and I didn’t want my expectations to be dashed. So, I took a deep inhalation of the smell once more and plunged in. Ahhhhh … I was not disappointed! The flavor was nearly as delicious as the smell. I say “nearly” only because I just don’t think it’s possible to match the two. But I have to say that Boca Java has come as close as anyone to doing so. It was simply YUMMY!

At this point, M was growing a bit curious about this brew because his wife and I were oooing and ahhing over the delicious flavor. He just couldn’t resist any longer and had to try a sip. Unfortunately, he sipped from her cup – she takes her coffee black – and the flavor of coffee again insulted his taste buds. Yes, his taste buds are insulted by the flavor of coffee -- even something as dreamy as Pajama Passion. I tried to convince him to try some with cream, but he was not to be persuaded after his “bitter” experience. I was so sad. I was really hoping to report that this was the blend that transformed his views on coffee, but it was not to be. I guess there are those among us who will never learn to enjoy the comfort of a cup of joe.

Since that evening, DH and I have worked our way through the rest of the bag. We generally mix our coffee half caff./half decaf., and I did so with the last half of this bag. Still the scent and flavor of the blend came through, though on a milder note.

I’ve also found that my sense of smell is quite “sleepy.” In other words, I taste and smell things much more in the evenings than in the morning. A by-product of seasonal allergies, I guess.

That’s all for now … I must go refill my cup.

I, too, am like M, I really love the smell of coffee, particularly when the beans are freshly ground, my interest wanes once it is brewed, although it still smells good. However, I really can't bear the taste of the stuff, I keep thinking that I will "grow into it" and despite my desire to be a "proper grown up", it never happens, your story reminded me how much I want to like coffee. One day...
